Why are Natural Cleaners Better than Toxic Cleaners?

Why are Natural Cleaners Better than Toxic Cleaners?

Consistent cleaning is important to avoid any development of bacteria, germs, and ensures a healthy environment. However, many of the popularly used cleaners today contain harsh chemicals which may clean your surroundings but harm your body’s health. From hand soaps, detergents, all-purpose cleaners, and any other cleaners, it’s important to be aware of what exactly you’re using and if there are better alternatives that do clean effectively, without the harmful effects.

What ingredients make a cleaner unsafe?

Many popularly used cleaners contain various chemicals. These products also contain very long ingredient lists – which most consumers don’t recognize the side effects that come with using harmful cleaners. The side effects can range anywhere between allergies, congestion, headaches, wheezing, skin irritation, contact dermatitis, and so much more. It is vital for consumers to be aware of the products they’re using.

Neurotoxins like perchloroethylene is also classified as a possible carcinogen. This is typically found in carpet cleaners. QUATS (Quarternary Ammonium Compounds) is another ingredient containing antimicrobial properties yet is a leading cause of contact dermatitis. Cellular pathways can be affected according to Libin Xu, a biochemist from the University of Washington. Ammonia is a very common ingredient – it doesn’t leave streaks when cleaning. However, respiratory irritation (lungs and nose) is caused, and has properties that kill cells in the body if accidentally ingested. If in a humid environment, the use of an ammonia-containing cleaner will make the surrounding air heavy and form harmful vapors.

Additionally, cleaners that contain ingredients that smell pungent are masked with the use of artificial fragrances. This is not beneficial towards individuals that have fragrance sensitivity and can cause unwanted side effects. These side effects include painful headaches, nausea, itchy skin, and more.

To avoid these symptoms, Liquid Earth uses naturally derived ingredients that are powerful, safe, and not heavily scented. Even our Chlorophyll Toilet Bowl Cleaner is bleach free yet works very effectively, delivering a fresh scent that induces positive side effects such as feeling good. This goes towards all Liquid Earth cleaners. Our products do not cause harm to yourself or the environment. As a matter of fact, the only side effect you should have with our product is feeling good during and after cleaning through incorporating aromatherapy within our cleaners! Additionally, we carry an unscented non-toxic cleaner called Naked Nature!

Greenwashing?

Many cleaning brands may say that they’re biodegradable, yet it would take many years for the product to biodegrade, just like any other toxic cleaners. A truly biodegradable product wouldn't take years and years, it would take days. Additionally, some cleaners will look like they’re green and have a simplified look, just like products that are truly green, but the product contained is still harmful. A company can state that they are natural, however, there are some natural products that are harmful.
